I was first drawn to this book by the cover…of course.  And by the title.  I was assuming it was a purely erotica tale, hmmm.  But I’ll get to that point later.  The cover is of a woman with a beautiful body sandwiched in between two men with killer muscles; who would not be drawn to that…or at least curious?  And then the title, focusing only on the last word; Gladiators.  *sigh* When I hear that word I think of Romans, I think of big, strong men who fight to the death.  I think of steel armor encasing rock hard bodies.  I’ve always had a little place in my heart reserved for the Roman era; I would have loved to have witnessed battles between warring clans, the celebrations after the win.  There is just something so raw about that period that I can’t get enough of.
Ok, so I was a little disappointed with this read because it was more of a pornographic tale than an erotica.  I swear every chapter had at least one sex scene up until Chapter 13 when I got more involved with the story.  Probably because the pornographic edge of the story was no more.  The plot to me was just a cover so the author could write sex scenes to her heart’s content, it (the plot) was very thin to me.  I would have loved this read if half of the sex scenes were thrown out, probably more than half actually.
Here is the summary: (taken from Avon site)

Alba has spent her entire life pleasing others.
As an upper-class woman in Ancient Rome, that is her place in life. But when her husband, Lucius, the owner of a prestigious gladiatorial school, uses her body as a bargaining tool to increase his fortunes, she is faced with doing as he demands-or finding herself on the street.
Forced to lie with masked gladiators chosen by Lucius, Alba is surprised to discover pleasure in being powerless. Only in the forbidden arms of Caius and Marcus does she find comfort, however temporary it may be.
But with Lucius’ demands looming and the threat of death for her gladiators ever present, will Alba’s fleeting pleasures be enough? Or will she finally grab hold of her own desires, no matter the consequences?

  1. Oh my…I don't think I would read a book like that. I prefer classic literature like Jane Austen.

I do however find the Roman era fascinating as it mirrors modern American society so well.

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog today! 🙂
