The second in the incredible new Rules of Scoundrels series from New York Times bestselling author Sarah MacLean.

Lady Philippa Marbury is odd. The bespectacled, brilliant fourth daughter of the Marquess of Needham and Dolby cares more for books than balls, flora than fashion and science than the season. Nearly engaged to Lord Castleton, Pippa wants to explore the scandalous parts of London she’s never seen before marriage. And she knows just who to ask: the tall, charming, quick-witted bookkeeper of The Fallen Angel, London’s most notorious and coveted gaming hell, known only as Cross.

Like any good scientist, Pippa’s done her research and Cross’s reputation makes him perfect for her scheme. She wants science without emotion—the experience of ruination without the repercussions of ruination. And who better to provide her with the experience than this legendary man? But when this odd, unexpected female propositions Cross, it’s more than tempting . . . and it will take everything he has to resist following his instincts—and giving the lady precisely what she wants.

Lady Philippa Marbury is about to get married to an upstanding gentleman of the ton, Lord Castleton is kind, generous, and…safe.  Pippa is curious about many things in life, and with only a fortnight before her wedding, she needs some important questions answered regarding the marriage bed.  She does not dare ask family members, so that only leaves one man.  Cross.  The owner of The Angel, the prestigious gaming hell in all of London.

Cross is a complex man, with a past he’d rather have stayed buried.  But when he meets Philippa, everything changes.

I don’t know what else to say without giving away key parts of the story.  One Good Earl Deserves a Lover was a long time coming and has surpassed the wait.  I cried while reading this second book in the series by Sarah MacLean.  I cried while staying up way past my bedtime, I grew sentimental and actually thinking before the night was out how the heck Sarah can evoke emotion like this.  How can she write this moving, emotional battle of wills between Philippa and Cross.

It has been such a God awful long time since I read a book that I just connect with on all levels; characters, the writing, the plot, the emotion that said writing evokes.  This was of course an e book that I read but I’m definitely going to buy the paperback for a keeper.  And I hardly ever say that since I travel so much, but Sarah MacLean’s latest has touched me all the way to my toes!

And OH Cross!  Wait until you hear the meaning behind his name!

I loved every single written word in this book.  I love this series!  I cannot wait for Temple’s story coming later this year.
